Soul Songs: Reflections of Joy in Everyday Life

by Heidi Levan

It has long been my quest to discover how to dance amidst the mundane routines and responsibilities of everyday life. For many years I have studied the books, thoughts and actions of great spiritual leaders and observed life with a passion for understanding how to arrive at a higher level of living. Many of the leaders I found fascinating traveled to faraway places or spent months alone to arrive at that higher understanding. With a home, husband, children, elderly parents, career and a mortgage, that was not a viable option for me.

Through it all I kept saying “you HAVE to be able to aspire to this spiritual, peaceful understanding simply by living everyday life.” I believed there was a way to live with enlightenment without turning everything upside down. I began a journey - a journey to find magic in the common world around me and a journey to find my own joy and spiritual deepening within me. Along the way, I began to write my observations on this path - the joys, the lessons, the sadness, the stillness, the action, the sweetness, and the soulfulness of life. While this book is my journey, my deepest hope is that it will inspire others to smile more, laugh more, dream more, love more, and find their own joy in the world around them.

Conversations' Review of SOUL SOULS: Reflections of Joy in Everyday Life
We are all so busy right now, and the world would have us believe that there is no time to do anything but go go, go. In her book SOUL SONGS we are reminded by author Heidi Levan that not only should we take out the time to enjoy the moment but our lives could become better off by doing so.

The book takes you into various areas that the author has explored personally and is able to share with all of us what the benefits are. It can be as easy as taking 15-20 min a day to enjoy the little things. It can be the stillness of nature or the warmth of the sun or a cup of coffee. If we can just slow down enough to build our appreciation for where we are there is really nothing that should seem impossible.

One of my favorite chapters in the book reminders us of a flame: it's power, it's purpose and its ability to be something more. Sure it can give light and warmth, but unless it is fed there is no way for it to survive. That is where we are as well. We have to learn where we are and where we want to go in order to see how we can get there. Like the flame we might dim, but we never have to go out. There is always that spark within us that just needs to be fed---and we have what it takes to do just that.

Written in a way that is practical and certain to get you thinking about your life and what is possible for you, SOUL SONGS speaks to the part of ourselves that desires to learn, to expand, to grow.
