[BOOK REVIEW] Think It by Sarah Centrella

Ready for real change? It begins with how you see yourself.

I was first introduced to Sarah Centrella in 2016 through HUSTLE BELIEVE RECEIVE, however, this book takes the principles from there and expands on it in a meaningful way. THINK IT gives you the tools necessary to go from just wanting something to actually getting it.

Though she is speaking to her primary audience of women, Sarah's principles and lessons learned are great for all of us. One of the things she says that really hit home was this: The most important relationship you'll ever have is with yourself---so let's start treating it like that.

This important truth reminds us not to allow what might be the perceptions of others---or even our own negative self-talk---to keep us from where we are meant to be. You've been given something that can be life-changing, not just for yourself but others. Don't be the one keeping it locked inside.

Based on Sarah's own strategies and lived experiences, this is the book that equips you in turning dreams into a reality. It guides you in asking the right questions of yourself and giving you the permission to not just want more but to ACHIEVE MORE. It's not wishful thinking. It's purposeful living. That is what has made the difference for Sarah, and the same can be the case for you.

Actress Taylor Farrar: Living the Dream that is Meant for Her

by Cyrus Webb

There is a difference in saying what you want and actually doing the work to make it happen. For Taylor Farrar*, there is only one option: giving life all she has.

I was introduced to her through the hit show DIVORCED SISTAS, and it was immediately clear that she was going to be a talent to watch.

Taylor, first congratulations to you on all of your success. What has it been like for you to reflect on all that has happened?

It has honestly been unbelievable in all the best ways. To finally be living out a dream and accomplishing things I have worked toward for so long feels incredibly humbling and surreal. I am so grateful for every opportunity and every person who believed in me along the way.

At the same time, reflecting on a year like that naturally brings a little pressure. You start asking yourself if 2026 can live up to what 2025 was, but I am trying to let that turn into motivation and trust that whatever comes next will be exactly what it is meant to be.

I said to you during our interview on Amazon LIVE that your optimism and positive outlook are contagious. What role has that played in your getting where you are today?

My faith has been a lifeline for me. This industry asks you to sit with a lot of uncertainty,

rejection, and waiting, and without a positive outlook it can be really easy to lose yourself or

your love for the work. For me, choosing to stay rooted in my faith makes optimism so

natural for me.

Being optimistic about my future has helped me stay open, curious, and

resilient, and I think people feel that energy. At the end of the day, I genuinely love what I

do, and I believe that showing up with gratitude and belief, even on the hard days, has

played a huge role in getting me to where I am.

Many around the world—myself included—got to know you from DIVORCED

SISTAS. What was it like for you to land that role and be a part of such a talented

cast?

It was truly a surreal feeling. I’m beyond grateful and excited for the opportunity. Landing

the role of Kelli felt like a full circle moment, and stepping onto set alongside such an

incredibly talented cast was both exciting and humbling. It’s so rewarding because I’ve

worked so hard for this ever since I was little and for it to come true? Wow. I am pinching

myself. Everyone on set is beyond amazing. Getting to work with everyone has been a

dream, we all share the same craft and love for that craft, so it’s like we all share a special

connection.

Of course, having LeToya Luckett and Devon Franklin play my parents is so fun

and such an honor. They are both such talented individuals, and I’ve learned so much from

them. Watching them work, their presence, professionalism, and generosity on set pushed

me to grow and become a better actor every single day. And being part of a project led by

Tyler Perry is something I still have to pinch myself about. He has been nothing short of

amazing, and learning from someone so legendary has been an experience I will carry with

me forever.

One of the things I loved seeing was the red carpet photos. You had this look of you were just where you belonged. Is that how it felt to you: that everything had led to that moment?

It honestly felt indescribable. I’ve dreamed about a moment like that for so long, and

when it finally happened it didn’t even feel real at first. There was a mix of gratitude, nerves,

excitement, and just trying to soak up every second. But yes… in a really emotional way, it

did feel like everything I’ve been through led to that moment. Not because I’ve “made it,” but

because it reminded me that the dreams you carry quietly for years can come true. And I’m

just really thankful I got to experience it.

When did you start believing in yourself and trusting in the gift you had been
given?

I’d say it really started in middle school and high school when I got involved in theatre.

That was the first time I felt like I wasn’t just hoping I had a gift. I was seeing it come to life,

and people around me started recognizing it too. However, you don’t need validation from

other people to believe in yourself… but I won’t lie, it’s a really rewarding feeling when

someone sees something in you and it confirms what you’ve felt in your heart for a long

time. That season helped me start trusting myself more, and trusting that the gift I was given

was real and worth pursuing.

Comparison is one of the things that can steal from the joy that comes from the

moment. What helps you to block out the noise and stay focused on your own path?

Honestly, it’s hard not to compare. I think it’s human to want to look around and measure

where you are, especially in an industry like this. But I’ve had to train my mind to remember

that comparison really is the thief of joy.

For me, what helps is reminding myself that everyone’s timeline and calling is different, and

what’s meant for me won’t miss me. I try to stay focused on the things I can control, like my

growth, my work ethic, and showing up with the right heart and go-getter attitude, willing to

learn and grow.

I’ve also learned that when I start feeling that “noise,” it’s usually a sign I need to take a step

back, get grounded, and remember why I started. And I try to stay grateful for what I do

have, because I truly believe you have it for a reason.

Importantly, I try to keep my eyes on what God has for me, because comparison makes you

forget how far you’ve already come.

Social media is one of the ways you’re able to stay connected with your fans. What has that experience been like for you to have people rooting for your rise in the industry?

Wow, it is such a crazy feeling. Like… just knowing there are people out there rooting for

me, supporting me, and celebrating the little wins with me, even though they don’t

personally know me, is something I’ll never take for granted. It warms and melts my heart

when I get that message saying how they love my work. You don't see the people behind

the screen but they see you in front of theirs…. Such a rewarding feeling.

It’s really special, and it honestly keeps me motivated. I feel so grateful because I know

people don’t have to care, so the fact that they do means so much. I’m just thankful I get to

share the journey with them and hopefully inspire them in some way too.

What was it like for you to have others believe in you and want to help you win?

A: It honestly meant everything to me. There were moments when I was still figuring it out

and still learning to fully believe in myself, so having people around me who genuinely saw

something in me and wanted to help me win was so encouraging. Not everyone has that.

I’m blessed to be surrounded by my family and friends who genuinely want me to succeed.

That just makes me me feel supported, but it also pushed me to work harder because I

didn’t want to take that kind of belief for granted. I’m just really thankful for the people who

have poured into me, prayed for me, and reminded me that I’m capable, even on the days I

doubted it.

I know you probably can’t say much, but what are you excited about that's coming up?

I’m hoping for more opportunities, more growth, and just continuing to learn and get better with every project I’m a part of. And of course, I’m excited to see what Divorced Sistas has in store for me and where this journey goes. I’m just grateful and taking it one step at a time.

You are now in a place to encourage others along their own path. What advice do you give for those wanting to make 2026 their year?

Don’t give up. Seriously. If you quit, it’s already a no. But if you keep going, you’re giving

yourself a chance for a yes. And I also want people to know this: if you think you can’t make an impact where you are right now, you’re wrong. You absolutely can. You don’t have to be “at the top” or have

everything figured out to start walking in your purpose.

Just stay consistent, stay hungry, keep showing up, and believe that what’s meant for you

will find you. If you want it, go for it. This can really be your year.

Thanks again for your time and for showing others what’s possible, Taylor. How can our

readers stay connected with you?

A: Thank you so much — I really appreciate it! The best way to stay connected with me is

on Instagram @tayfarrar where I share updates and what I’m working on.

[AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT] Author/Counselor Sharon Matthews Fortune, LPC, CSAC

by Cyrus Webb

All great things begin with an idea. When did you know you had a story or something given to you that you wanted to share with the world?

Honestly, I always knew from a young age. As a girl, I was very aware of how my life was unfolding and longed to be heard and understood. I believed that accepting my own story could help others accept theirs as well.

Challenges come to us all. What has helped you not to allow the challenges to stop you?

I am naturally a positive thinker, one who roots for the underdog and sees opportunity in crisis. I’ve faced numerous challenges that could have led to setbacks, but my bulldog faith in my ability to rise above adversity kept me focused on overcoming them.

The way we connect with people has changed so much over the years. How have you evolved with the popularity of social media and ways to find your audience?

The evolution of social media posed a significant challenge for me, because I have always been a private person. Posting felt like inviting people into my personal space, which was threatening. By clarifying why I was on social media, I was able to set boundaries for myself and others that aligned with my message. I choose to let my audience find me by being as authentic as possible.

There’s nothing better than knowing you have said or done something that has impacted the lives of others. What has it been like for you to hear from your audience about how you have affected them?

It’s always humbling to hear how your thoughts, words, and actions have positively impacted someone’s life. I take no credit, because each day I begin with the same prayer: Lord, use me.

Have you gotten used to the idea of being an example of what is possible when it comes to pursuing your goals and dreams?

I still struggle to give myself credit. I can be guilty of Imposter Syndrome until I pause to reflect on how far I’ve come. I’m a work in progress, and I am making progress, for which I am grateful.

What are you excited about as you look towards the rest of 2026?

I’m excited about my next book, which is in the editing process and will be published soon. I’m also excited about evolving as an author, speaker, and agent of change, and I look forward to the next chapter as I enter another decade of life!

What advice do you have for others when it comes to pursuing their own dreams?

It might seem cliché, but the path to your dreams is not linear. When detours appear along the way, remember that each twist and turn offers new lessons.

It's been great getting to know you, Sharon. Excited about what's to come. How can our audience stay connected with you?

Harold "Noonie G" Ward: Keeping It Real While Growing In His Purpose Daily

by Cyrus Webb

For years I've had the privilege of seeing the evolution and expansion that Harold "Noonie G" Ward has been a part of. He's shared his highs and lows with the world, and in 2026 Noonie G continued to show that there are no limits to what he can do.

After releasing his book ALTGELD GARDENS and sharing more entertainment projects and entrepreneurial endeavors, it's clear that the best is yet to come.

Noonie G, what you have achieved in your life, both personally and professionally, has been amazing to witness. What has it been like for you to reflect on the journey to where you are now?

Honestly, it's been amazing and at the same time, surreal. There are moments where I sit back and almost can't believe this is my life. But then again, I do believe it, because I know God has been with me every step of the way.

When I think about where I came from: the streets, the struggles, the things I was exposed to and then look at where I am now, it's nothing short of a blessing. I've seen a lot, been through a lot, and to now be in a place where I'm serving God and trying to give back... It's powerful.

I actually had a moment on a plane recently where I just started crying, reflecting on how far I've come. It wasn't sadness. It was gratitude. God has blessed me over and over again, and I don't take that for granted. So when I reflect on the journey, all I can really say is it's been incredible.

In reading your story that you've shared in your books you seem to be a natural leader. Has it been easy for you to adjust to people looking to you for answers and leadership?

I wouldn't necessarily say it's been easy, but it feels natural to me. Leadership is one of the gifts God gave me, so I don't overthink it; it just kind of flows. When people come to me for guidance or answers, I don't hesitate. I step in and handle whatever comes my way.

It's like something that automatically kicks in. Whether someone needs advice, support, or direction, I'm there for it. I truly believe it's part of my purpose, and I try to use that gift in a way that helps others and honors God.

Speaking of leadership, when did you know that you were someone who was meant to lead?

Honestly, I recognized it at a young age. Even as a kid, I was always the one bringing people together whether it was for sports or just organizing something for us to do. When I spoke or made a plan, people naturally followed, and I didn't have to force it.

That was my first sign. I didn't fully understand it back then, but looking back now, I can see that leadership was already in me. As I grew older, that same energy just carried into my adult life. It's always been a part of who I am.

In your newest book ALTGELD GARDENS we see not just the challenges you faced but the opposition as well. I think our readers will really appreciate this. What has helped you to deal with the fact that not everyone around you is rooting for you?

One thing I had to learn is that everybody isn't going to like you and everybody isn't going to support your growth. Once I accepted that, it changed how I move. It keeps me on my Ps and Qs at all times.

When you start doing better and changing your life, it can make some people uncomfortable. Not everyone wants to see you grow, especially if they're used to the old version of you. I've had to deal with negativity, doubt, and people throwing different things my way, but that comes with the territory.

At the end of the day, I stay focused. I know who I am, and I know where I'm going. The opposition doesn't stop me; it actually motivates me. It keeps me sharp, keeps me grounded, and reminds me to keep pushing forward no matter what.

ALTGELD GARDENS also shows the importance of working together for a common good. You have gone from being a part of the problem to part of the solution. What does that community support mean to you as you continue to rise and thrive?

It means everything to me. I was raised in a household where giving back and supporting your community was the foundation. My father was the head janitor in Altgeld Gardens, and my mother was a school teacher, so service and responsibility were instilled in us early.

After my father passed, I lost my way for a while and became part of the problem. But life has a way of bringing things full circle. I made the decision to change, and coming back to be part of the solution means everything to me now.

It reminds me of what my parents taught me growing up: to help others, to give back, and to stand for something bigger than yourself. That community support isn't just important; it's personal. It's part of who I am, and it's what keeps me grounded as I continue to grow.

One thing about you, Noonie G, is that you don't mind helping others win. Why is that so important to you?

Because I truly believe there's enough out here for everybody. It's not a competition the way people make it seem. When I see other people win, I feel like I'm winning, too.

Helping others succeed creates a different kind of environment; one where people aren't trying to tear each other down or compete in a negative way. It takes away that crabs in a barrel mentality where everyone's just trying to pull each other back.

When more people are winning, there's less hate, less division, and more progress. That's the kind of mindset I stand on. We're all better when we uplift each other.

You also have made sure to remind young people about what is possible, regardless of where they come from. What do you hope our readers remember about the importance of not allowing themselves to be defined by their environment?

What I want people to understand is that no matter where you come from, you can change your life. As long as you're still breathing, you've got another chance to do things differently. Give it to God, ask for forgiveness, and take control of your path.

Your environment doesn't have to define you, and neither do other people's opinions. Just because someone sees you a certain way doesn't mean that's your reality. You have the power to become something greater. I'm living proof that change is possible. So don't let where you started be the reason you don't go further.

Outside of your work in the community and writing books, you are getting more involved in the entertainment industry. Tell us about your new projects.

I'm really excited about this next chapter. One of my biggest new projects is a TV series, and it's very personal to me. It's going to give people a real look at where I come from Altgeld Gardens and the culture, the struggles, the love, and the community that shaped me.

This project is about more than entertainment. It's about showing the world that greatness can come from anywhere. People don't always realize how many influential figures have roots connected to that same environment; people like President Barack Obama, Kanye West, Michelle Obama, and others. There's history there, there's talent there, and there are powerful stories that deserve to be told.

We've got some strong talent involved, and the goal is to create something that's authentic, impactful, and off the chain in the best way. At the same time, I'm using this opportunity to open doors for others. I'm creating jobs, giving people chances, and helping the next generation see what's possible.

For me, it's not just about getting into the entertainment industry; it's about using it as a platform to inspire, uplift, and bring real stories to life.

What advice do you have for others when it comes to the decision to make a change in their lives?

At the end of the day, everything we do in life comes down to a choice. The direction you're going in is based on decisions you've made. So if you want something different, you've got to decide to do something different.

As long as you're still breathing, you have the ability to change your life. God gives you that opportunity every day. But you have to be honest with yourself, if you keep going down the wrong path, that's a choice too.

Real change starts in your mind. Before anything happens, it's first a thought. So if you can change your thinking, you can change your actions and that can change your whole life. Not just for you, but for your family and the people around you.

Thanks again for all you do, Noonie G. How can our readers stay connected with you?

The best way to stay connected with me is through social media. I'm active on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Just look me up and tap in. I really enjoy engaging with people.

More than anything, I want people to stay connected to the movement; not just me. Follow what we're doing in the community, support the work, and be a part of it. We've got a lot of things coming up, from back-to-school drives to holiday giveaways, and even scholarships. We're giving away multiple $1,000 scholarships to help support the next generation.

And I'm real with it. If you reach out to me, I'm going to respond. People tell me not to, but I stay connected because that's what it's all about. So tap in, stay engaged, and grow with us. And I really want thank God and Tammy Johnson for her bomb Forward and her contribution to the book with her interviews and having my back through this whole process from the beginning. Thanks also to you, Cyrus.

Irene Vaksberg: Turning Pain Into Purpose and Changing Lives Along the Way

by Cyrus Webb

When challenges come our way it's easy for us to retreat or give up. For Irene Vaksberg quitting was not an option. She turned the pain from a life-changing accident into a purpose that has not just benefit her but others as well.

In this conversation we discussed how she overcame the fear of judgment and has become a cheerleader for others.

Irene, we are so glad to be featuring you as one of our 25 People You Should Know in 2026. What has it been like to see the impact you are having in the lives of others?

The impact that my story has had is helping change lives all over the world. On various social media platforms, people connect with me to tell them how much my words of inspiration and my overcoming years of chronic pain has helped them in those hard times.

It helped me heal and find my voice through facing my traumas from the accident. I'm more comfortable speaking in my purpose and that has given me more confidence to share my story everyday.

Your story is the thing that is really connecting with people around the world. Was it an easy decision for you to share what you have been through?

It was not easy to share my story. My biggest fear was being judged, and I was afraid of what people would think when I would open up about what I'd been dealing with in silence. Everyone wants to show the best, not the worst. I knew that someone out there needed my voice, and I wanted to help them see that they can get up just like I did. The journey didn't start about me. It started about others. In the process sharing for others helped me heal in the end.

I have seen you show up again and again online and in person, letting people know what has changed your life. How were you introduced to this revolutionary technology?

A friend of mine gifted me a wearable technology tool. She knew how much I was struggling with my pain. In my darkest moment I didn't have any solutions, and she was always looking out for me.

This produced changed her life, and she wanted to see what it would do for me. The moment the technology connected to me I stopped shaking for the first time in 3 years. I prayed for a miracle for 6 years and couldn't find a solution. I was at the end of my rope. My friend stepped in to present this miracle from God. I didn't take the socks off for 7 days. Since my discovery of this product, the company has expanded into various new applications of wearing them as patches.

Now we have 15 different patches that support health and wellness.

Social media is a big way you are able to share your message. What has it been like for you to see the way people around the world are responding?

I'm very honored that people resonate with my story and find hope through it. Social media allows me to connect with so many people. I've created a community that together we are stronger in our collective mission. Anyone can do this. Anyone can share their story! People will support you and your journey, but you have to be willing to put yourself out there.

You said recently in a video that this is not easy for you. What helps you to keep showing up, even when it’s hard?

People that are struggling in chronic pain help me stay motivated to continue to share my story. The mission is to change lives and give people hope that living a better quality of life is possible. Doctors gave me no hope and told me I'd live the rest of my days in a wheelchair. I am the testimony that miracles do happen and you just have to pray & believe it will be alright.

What advice do you have for others who believe they have a story to share?

Show up! Be heard! Live in your power. Don't worry about what other people think. Use your pain for purpose and don't be afraid to express who you are. It will heal and release you from what no longer serves you.

Thanks for all you do, Irene. How can our audience stay connected with you?

[BOOK REVIEW] Selective Compassion by Dr. Bridgette Y. Williams

 by Cyrus Webb

We live a world where people don't always consider how what they say and do impacts the lives of others, both positively and negatively. In SELECTIVE COMPASSION Dr. Bridgette Y. Williams examines not just the ways we can deal with situations in life but the difference we can make my just being more mindful in our approach to others.

In the book we see examples in the home and in the world that we can learn from, helping us to not just be more compassionate but empathetic as well. It shows itself in what we say and how we say it. It's exemplified in what we do and how we choose to do it.

Bridgette discusses it this way: "You must be present, you must listen, and you must not rush to explain pain away... I see it as a universal call to action." (p. 71)

The question becomes will you answer the call? As the book admits, there is no way to help everyone or to show up for everyone. But all of us have the ability to make a difference in the lives of those we are in contact with every day. It's just up to us to make that decision and allow real compassion to show itself.

We never know the difference that can make until you try it.

Carlos Walker, Artist/Author/Media Host/Speaker

by Cyrus Webb

In April 2025 I was introduced to the man who is Carlos Walker thanks to Instagram.

I was immediately impressed not just by his drive and passion for his work, but his ability to connect and celebrate others. Carlos is making a name for himself by building a personal brand that empowers, educates and uplifts.

Through his art work, his story and his determination, he is able to not just share what is possible. He's living it.

Carlos, it's been great watching you rise and shine. What has it been like for you to see how people are responding to your message and example of what is possible?

First, thank you for allowing me this opportunity.

It has been nothing short of amazing to realize that God can and will use you to share what He has given you with the world.

As I've mentioned before, I spent 13 years in prison, and knowing that my art and my book have inspired many is truly mind-blowing. It's a testament to what God can accomplish through you.

You have been in situations that could have caused you to give up on your dreams and even yourself. What helped you to keep going?

While in prison, I heard in my spirit that I would leave early, that the world would see my artwork, and that I would become a millionaire. At that moment, I believed these were promises from God. Over the past 12 years, I have gradually witnessed the first two promises come to fruition, reinforcing my faith in the process.

I always remind myself with a quote: "You can't tell a plant when to produce fruit." ~ Carlos Walker

I trust God and His promises, and I am dedicated to preparing myself for what's to come. Never give up, because even when it seems like things aren't working, they truly are.

I also take notice of others that have succeeded.

You have used the power of the written word and your art along with your mission. When did you realize the different ways you had to share your gifts with the world?

While sitting in prison, I realized that art was not just a gift or a hobby. It was my superpower. I understood that it had the potential to change the world.

I had the privilege of being a guest on your podcast. Tell us about how it started, and what it's been like for you to spotlight those making a difference.

It was truly an honor to host you. As an author myself, I felt it was a no-brainer to share the artistry of others. I understand that some focus solely on their own work, but there's an African proverb that says, "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together."

I've learned that it costs me nothing to highlight other authors and those who have faced similar challenges and thrived. I'm grateful for the time I get to spend speaking with everyone; it's a blessing. I gain insights from each conversation and aim to share that inspiration with others to encourage them to write.

Social media has leveled the playing field in so many ways when it comes to outreach. How have you been able to leverage it when it comes to accomplishing your goals?

To God be the glory! You can reach almost anyone.

Because of it, my art has been displayed at The World Trade Center and featured in Mogul Magazine overseas.

However, the greatest blessing has been the opportunity to reach people like you and interview fellow authors. Because of these connections, individuals I would have never reached have been exposed to my art, books, and voice.

I have greatly benefited from these experiences.

Carlos, what advice would you give to others when it comes to not giving up on themselves, regardless of how difficult things might seem?

The best way that I can tell you is if God gave you an idea treat it like a plant. Work it 'til you see fruit. It's called the fruit of your labor. When you stop watering and taking care of the plant, the plant dies and so will the dream. Keep going and trust God, and the idea that was given.

Thank you for your time and all you do, Carlos. How can our readers stay connected with you?

They can find me on IG @walkers_gallery2 and YouTube @walkersgallery

I want to thank you Cyrus for giving me the opportunity to share and inspire. It's an honor knowing you.

Suga Ray: Building Bridges While Leading by Example

 by Cyrus Webb

"Who I am today is who I've always wanted to be." ~ Suga Ray

It's been so encouraging watching how Suga Ray has expanded his platform over the years. I have had the pleasure to interview him on our radio show Conversations LIVE and even in person while visiting Brooklyn, NY. Each time we have connected he has been energetic, inspiring and ready to remind others of what is possible in life, both personally and professionally.

In 2025 he was featured in DEAR NEW YORK, giving his message and story a larger spotlight.

In this conversation we talk about his path, the journey of fatherhood and what it's like to inspire people around the world.

Suga Ray, you have been such a bright light in the world, and it’s been great to see your expansion since we first connected. What has it been like to look back on where you were and now?

Thank you so much brother Cyrus. I really appreciate your support over the years, and especially with this magazine feature. It means a lot.

To look back, so much has happened. I dropped that book, a few films, and was honored by the NY Senate and Congress, among a bunch of other things. I’ve watched my children continue to grow into amazing young people. As well I’ve experienced some serious hardship and lost more friends to murder and many other causes, including COVID.

I’m just really grateful to be alive, and in a position to make all of my dreams come true while empowering my community at the same time.

We were introduced through your book Dear Usha: Messages To My First Born which was released in 2017. Since then you have continued to use your voice to inspire and motivate others. Have you always known that was your purpose?

Yessir. I’ve known my purpose since I was at least 7 years old. I remember watching Michael Jackson sing “Heal the world, make it a better place” back in 1991, and I knew that’s what I was supposed to be doing. I realized a few years later it wasn’t the singing and dancing that most intrigued me. It was the impact he had on people. That’s what I wanted to do. Use my love of words and all my talents to make the world a better place.

You seem to be so fearless in your approach to all you do, online and offline. Where does that confidence come from and what helped you develop it?

Well, the confidence comes from the realization that everyone fails, everyone loses, everyone gets rejected, and so even if any of those things happen to me, what does that mean? Absolutely nothing. Plus, I learned that things like failure, loss, and rejection don’t happen to us, they happen for us. Sometimes to redirect our paths or to give us a lesson that we’ll need later on. I guess in short I’d say my supreme confidence in myself and my abilities comes from knowing who I am, what I’m made of, what’s inside of me, and all that comes to make me understand that there is absolutely nothing that can stop me from accomplishing whatever it is I want to accomplish.

One of the things I respect so much about you, Suga Ray, is the way you look at your role as a father. How has fatherhood changed you?

Aww man, brother. Being a father has made me so much more aware of how my words and actions, those said and unsaid, those done and left undone, how much they impact those around me. Fatherhood has made me look at my role and responsibility as a man differently, outside of being a dad.  Fatherhood is making me more organized, more compassionate, more empathetic, more focused and goal oriented. Historically, prior to being a dad, I lived my life and kinda was building my brand/career in a more free flowing type of way, which had its perks and served its purpose for the time being. Since becoming a father I’ve pushed myself to plan more. Surprisingly, planning around their schedule is helping me structure my life and career more. So, although fatherhood is the absolute most challenging role I’ve ever taken on, it’s also the most fulfilling and rewarding role I could ever take on.

I really do enjoy being a father.

Your community also seems to be a big part of your why. Tell us about your connection to where you’re from and wanting better for them.

Without our community, who are we? Yes, I’m an extension of my parents and grandparents and the rest of my blood relatives, but without the role my beloved Queensbridge community played in my life, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Queensbridge gave me brotherhood when I needed it most. Queensbridge provided male mentorship and guidance after my father passed away when I was only 11 years old. I played team sports, and developed the responsibilities of being a leader in my community. In my hood, on my block, we see each other more so as family than just a mere community. I’ve lost a lot of childhood friends to murder in my hood. Heck, I almost got murdered in my hood. I shot guns in my hood. For a long time, I was a bad example in my community, and I’ve lost a lot. I see my community as my extended family, and I feel responsible for contributing positively to the advancement of the community and the people that live there.

Most people who have big dreams, they dream of making it out of the hood. I get it. My dream is to transform the hood into a paradise. I see the hood as a place filled with people of royalty that just don’t know that they’re royalty.

This issue of our magazine is all about spotlighting men who are making a difference. Has it been easy for you to look at yourself as a role model?

So, this is kind of funny. I don’t really see myself as a role model, and I don’t want to be. Like yes, I’m doing a lot, and I’ve made a huge difference in the lives of many people all around the world, and I appreciate the love and respect people give me, but role model? Nah, not really. Only because that’s a slippery slope. Let’s say you consider me a role model, and you tell a 13 year old they should follow me, and let’s say they do. Let’s say one day they see me smoking weed, or drinking alcohol, or something like that where they’ve been told it was bad or wrong. Then that makes me look like a hypocrite and paints a picture of me that I had nothing really to do with. If that makes sense. (laughs) But I wholeheartedly acknowledge the fact that I’ve been an inspiration and sort of a hero to many. I’m humbly grateful for the love.

Outside of the high notes you have had I have seen you share some of the darker moments as well. What has kept you from giving up along the way?

Yeah man, lots of loss and pain, sadness and anger, and all of the emotions in between. What keeps me from giving up is the reality that I’ve come too far to give up now. If I give up, then what? Plus, I’m not only living for myself. I’m living for my children, and my friends that didn’t live long enough to transform their lives, and their children, and the children not even born yet. I accepted a big responsibility when I accepted my role as a World Healer. So, there’s nothing else for me to do other than walk this path I’m currently on.

Like, my ancestors are living through me. The children I created that never made it to this realm are living through me. I’m putting on for all of them!

Social media has helped keep us all connected. How have you used it to amplify your own message?

Man, social media is the quickest and easiest way for me to share a thought, or communicate a message to those who may be beyond ear’s reach. I’ve built so many incredible connections because of social media. I’ve helped and been helped by so many people because of social media. Because of social media my book has been read by folks on the other side of the planet, as well, many of my teachings have been shared by folks all over the world. I'm so grateful and humbled really.

You give so much. Where do you go to fill your own cup and be refreshed?

I do give a lot. First and foremost, I make time for daily prayer and meditation. To affirm my gratitude for the journey of life itself, and for all I’ve been blessed with. I also lay my worries down and confront any inhibitions I may have. As well, I have friends I can reach out to if needed. I go to the park and sit by the water. I’ll often spend some time laughing and hanging with my mom. I do my best to keep my cup full so that I may continuously pour into the cups of others. I’m grateful. Many folks told me if I continued operating the way I am, I’d be burned out and tired. The truth is I have more zest for the journey today than I did when I was 25. I’m really, really excited for what’s ahead.

What advice would you have for others when it comes to pursuing their goals and dreams?

The most important thing is to believe that your dream can happen for you. Believe that you deserve your dream to happen for you. Believe it. Share it with as many people as you possibly can, and communicate it in as many ways as you possibly can. Also, be patient. Know that greatness, true greatness takes time. Be consistent. Be disciplined. Work hard at your craft. You always wanna be a hard worker. Outwork everyone on your team and in your field. Make yourself undeniably the best. Study, Envision yourself succeeding and living the life you dream of. See yourself there. Embody the feelings you’ll feel when you get there.  And let nothing stop you or get in your way.

Branden Nicholson's "31 Days of Inspiration"

Conversations Magazine is excited to share daily words of encouragement from celebrity model/fitness trainer Branden Nicholson of B. Nick Fitness in California. The purpose? To encourage the reader to be the best of themselves each and every day.

Take out time to visit our website each day to find a daily dose of motivation and visit Branden online at www.bnickfitness.com.

Day One:  New day, new attitude...Take control, stay positive and be great!
Day Two:   The reason why people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go, instead of how far they have come.
Day Three:  If you're not growing, then you're not living. You should never be the same person two days in a row. Make it your goal to get better!
Day Four: When you are going through something hard and wonder where GOD is, remember that the teacher is always quiet during the test.
Day Five: Don't give up on what God has called you to do. The end result is worth the pain. Keep the faith.
Day Six: Today is all about choices. Choose to count your blessings rather than your problems!
Day Seven: You may be the only one that can see your vision, but if you can see it that's all that matters.
Day Eight: Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
Day Nine: The same people that are hoping you fail will be the same ones that will have to watch you succeed. Never stop. Always keep going!
Day Ten: The WRONG people in your life will keep the RIGHT people out. You've only got a few spaces so choose well!
Day Eleven: You are where God wants you to be at this very moment. Every experience is part of His divine plan.‪
Day Twelve: All liabilities must be let go! If they aren't building you up then they're tearing you down.
Day Thirteen: An original is always worth more than a copy. Be original!
Day Fourteen: When you focus on problems, you'll have more problems. When you focus on possibilities, you'll have more opportunities.
Day Fifteen: People who judge you by your past don't belong in your present.‪
Day Sixteen: Look around...Is this where you wanna be? If not, now is the time to decide to change it! The power lies in you.
Day Seventeen: Don't let your thoughts talk you out of the changes you want for yourself. Your body can do anything. It’s just your brain you have to convince! ‪
Day Eighteen: Get up & Go forward! Let go of the past so you'll have a free hand to open the door to your future!
Day Nineteen: They can copy you but they can't be you. Just keep being a better you and get a kick out of them trying to keep up.
Day Twenty: There are quick fixes for everything in life, but greatness is not achieved in one day. It is a process that each of us must experience.
Day Twenty-One: Don't let a bad day make you feel like you have a bad life.
Day Twenty-Two: You can't expect to live a positive life around negative people.
Day Twenty-Three: I Will NEVER lower MY standards, to RAISE someone else's!
Day Twenty-Four: Direct your thoughts today because your thoughts will direct your day.
Day Twenty-Five: ‪Temptation doesn't surrender. You have to come ready to fight everyday!
Day Twenty-Six: If you don't invest in yourself then your dreams will go bankrupt.
Day Twenty-Seven: Not everyone's opinion should be relevant in your life. Stop making irrelevant people relevant.
Day Twenty-Eight: Never let your mind bully your body!
Day Twenty-Ninth: One day, you'll be just a memory for some people. Do your best to be a good one.
Day Thirty: Want to see your biggest opponent? Look in the mirror.
Day Thirty-One: Don't stress. Do your best. Forget the rest.

[ACTOR SPOTLIGHT] Model/Actor Joshua Barkley aka Mr. Handsome

by Cyrus Webb

If no one else believes in you, you have to believe in yourself.

This his something that Joshua Barkley has believed since he was a young man growing up in Atlanta, Georgia.

He says his father sat him down one day and told him this: Whatever you want in life you can achieve. Don't let anyone stop you. never ever give up." Barkley says it was something that stuck in his head, and he has tried to live by that advice every since. "It's a burning fire in me to keep me going," he told me during our conversation. Today he is a model, actor and entertainer that is doing the work that he loves and is enjoying the success coming his way.

Under the moniker "Mr. Handsome", Barkley has been on a mission to be the best that he can be every day of his life. When it comes to modeling he told me that when he was younger the attention from the ladies when he took his shirt off was enough to make him want to look his best when he did it. It also pushed him to be mindful of how he carried himself at all times.

Though modeling and the entertainment world can be competitive, Barkley says that he is really the only competition he worries about. "I  make sure I work out and take care of myself," he says. He knows that to get (and keep) the attention of the ladies he has to bring his 'A Game' to every opportunity He also realizes that he has to do his research. "I'm online looking at what different people are commenting on and looking for," he explains. Along with networking he knows that is the key to staying relevant in the business.

What keeps Barkley motivated? "Ever since I've been old enough to understand life I've known that no one is going to do for me what I am not willing to do for myself. I have that kind of confidence for myself."

He also knows that he wants to be able to expand on his brand in the future, never placing limitations on himself just because he might look good in front of the camera. Barkley hopes that by him going for his goals and dreams that others will see that they can do the same.

"There's not a lot of opportunities where I'm from," he told me, but if I can keep striving I know I'll reach it to the top."

Melba Moore: Enjoying Success While Appreciating the Journey

by Cyrus Webb

Over the past 20 years I have had the honor of interviewing many notable individuals who have made their mark on the work and shared joy with others along the way. One of those is definitely Melba Moore.

The Tony-winning, Grammy-nominated actress, singer and songwriter has been all over the place, and in 2024 she was still riding high from receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As her year was coming to a close, I had a chance to speak with Ms. Moore again about her career and current projects as well as the gift she has been given.

Ms. Moore, I'm so glad to be able to speak with you again. It's so good to see you getting your flowers while you can appreciate it. Your work is being rewarded, and one thing that has really stood out to me is the amount of appreciation you have. What was it like for you to reflect back on that highlight of your career being recognized with the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

Once it happened, and I was there with the people who actually made it happen, I don't think I so much reflected on my career as I did the people that made it happen. And looking at them and realizing somebody like Kat Williams…If that fee hadn't been paid, I couldn't have gotten it. I didn't even know him, but he was there. So I was focused on who is this young man? Let me go find out about his talent. And I said, oh my God! Look at him and not just look at him...why did he think so much of me?

Now this was the first time that we're meeting, so you can't really get to know each other; but you know the essence of what this means and who they are. And since it's a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame it's there permanently. So, you realize how important this is, because it's a permanent achievement. And then I look at Kat, I look at Luenell…. some of the people that were there helping celebrate it with me. Then I was like ‘Wait a minute. Why is Tisha Campbell here?’

But the thing about it is, she told me ‘Remember when we met when I was a little girl?’ And she reminded me of something I had forgotten. The main thing she said is, ‘You were very kind to me.’ I said, oh my God. That's what this is all about. How did you live your life so that when you didn't have all those thousands of dollars to make this happen, even if you were accomplished, everything else, somebody said, you are a good person, so I want to do this for you. Those kinds of things you reflect on, because they’re right in your face.

And there are people around the world who feel that way, Ms. Moore. They appreciate how you share your gift with them.

Let’s talk about Broadway. What is that stage like for you to feel that energy in real time while you're on the stage?

Well, that in itself is amazing; but what you evoked in me is that when you talk about people all over the world saying that they heard a song of mine, I realize that the voice is really something special.

It's how we communicate with each other. Everything they know about me, all the other things I bring come through that little channel. To me, it's not just a hit record. I remember when so many opportunities were coming to me, I’d said, ’Okay, if you had to make a choice, what would be your foundation? What would be the central part that would cut to the heart of things?’

That thing that if you lose some things along the way, it's the heart of it. You gotta keep the heart beating, and for me it's been music. What you said to me invoked that I made the right choice, because for me it's a calling. I've learned how to use my voice in many ways now that I'm mature.

A lot of things would be gone if I didn't learn about how the whole being works. I actually, in some ways, am getting better, but I just mean because of contemplating all these things and hearing back from people who see you from a way you can't see yourself. It's the voice and how you take care of it, how you give it to people and how it affects other people's lives. So, you’re responsible for what you send out to people. And I think I made the right choice. <laugh>. Yeah, I chose the voice.

I love that. You said something that made me think of something, Ms. Moore. When you talk about the voice, I think of all of us. We have a gift. We all have a talent. It's really up to us to be able to use it. I guess I want to ask you, have you always trusted it? Have you always trusted that gift that you've been given?

Absolutely not. And I found out late that I had it. In my early life there was no music, because my mother was a single parent, and she was trying to take care of my grandmother as well. She was gone all the time, so there was nobody to tell me that I had a great voice.

Usually if singing or speaking is your gift, you learn about that early, because it's part of your body. I didn't learn about it until [my mother] married my stepfather. She married a musician. He had two other children, so now I had a sister and brother. You learn about how to get along with other people, because I'm not an only child anymore. I'm not just around old adults now. I'm around people my own age. That's a whole other thing. I think that you carry that over into communications of any kind, especially for music, because it's style, fashion. I'm glad I chose the voice and understand that it comes from God. That’s why I can’t give up. Even when it’s difficult you have to keep going, because you never know if the best things in my life are just getting ready to happen.

Keep up with the journey on Instagram at www.instagram.com/melba1moore/

[TO YOU, FROM ME] How to Walk the Talk in 2026

'Don't talk about it. Be about it.'

We have all heard that saying or something like it. One of the most popular reminders is "actions speak louder than words." This tells us that it's not what we say or even what we intend to do that matters. It's our actions that count.

That is what is guiding me this year and with every issue of Conversations Magazine that is coming your way in 2026. The time is out for just talking. In order to make a difference and to evoke real change, we have to roll up our sleeves and get to work.

It is with that in mind that I present our first MEN ON A MISSION issue of Conversations. This idea came to me as I was beginning the new year. These men that we are profiling have been able to find success in their areas, and they are leading by example.

Whether we're talking about notables like William Sanderson, Sean Ringgold or Cayman Kelly---or inspiring figures like Cousin Colby, Coach Alphonso Short and Suga Ray. All of these men have been able to deal with their personal challenges and empower others to do the same.

This issue is also the kick-off for my new Amazon partnership called SOMETHING FOR GUYS. I have the privilege of working with over 200 brands, and we'll be using our magazine to showcase them for our readers or even for those looking for affordable gift ideas.

For us all the challenge is clear: will we continue just talking about what we're going to do or will we get to doing it? I hope these profiles inspire you to get off the sideline and get in the game. We need you. We're rooting for you. The time is now.

Happy reading!

Cousin Colby: Showcasing the HIDDEN SUPERPOWER that Can Set Us Free

by Cyrus Webb

It is so easy for us to accept all that we see as wrong. It takes real courage and reflection to see the journey we have been on and what we have done along the way.

For Cousin Colby that road has been chronicled in the book HIDDEN SUPERPOWER---but it's not just about him. It's about us all. Through his platform Cousin Colby allows us to appreciate who we were created to be and give ourselves grace on the path of becoming.

Cousin Colby, first of all congratulations on the success of your book Hidden Superpower. What has it been like for you to see how your transparency has impacted the lives of others?
It’s been humbling in the truest sense. When I wrote this book, I wasn’t trying to inspire. I was trying to survive, heal, and make sense of my own life. Seeing people tell me, “I felt seen,” or “I thought I was the only one,” reminds me that transparency isn’t weakness, it’s a bridge. The impact has shown me that when one person is brave enough to tell the truth, it gives others permission to do the same.
The book is quite personal, even though I know many people—including myself—can relate to so much of what you have written. Were you surprised at how much you ended up sharing on the page?
Honestly, yes. There were moments while writing where I paused and thought, “Is this too much?” But I realized healing doesn’t happen in fragments, it happens in fullness. I didn’t want to write a polished story; I wanted to write a real one. What surprised me most wasn’t how much I shared, but how necessary it was to share it in order for the message to be honest.
A lot of Hidden Superpower deals with the power of overcoming: overcoming grief, overcoming loss, and overcoming your own personal insecurities. Have you been able to give yourself credit for all that you have overcome in your life and celebrate where you are now?
That’s still a journey. For a long time, I was so focused on surviving the next moment that I never stopped to acknowledge how far I’d already come. Writing this book forced me to look back and say, “You’re still here, and that matters.” I’m learning to celebrate progress, not perfection, and to honor the strength it took to become who I am today.
Forgiveness is a big part of the book as well. Talk with us about the role it has played in your healing and growth.
Forgiveness changed everything for me, not because it excused what happened, but because it released me from carrying it. I realized that unforgiveness was quietly costing me peace, clarity, and joy. Forgiveness became less about others and more about reclaiming myself. It didn’t erase the pain, but it stopped the pain from defining me.
With a new year comes new perspectives on us and the world. How do you hope Hidden Superpower helps the reader to realize what is possible for them?
I hope readers walk away understanding that their pain is not proof of failure, it’s proof of survival. I want them to see that what they’ve been through doesn’t disqualify them; it equips them. My hope is that the book helps people recognize that their story, even the broken parts, holds power, and that healing, growth, and purpose are still available to them.
You also are using social media to share your message. What has it been like to see the way people around the world are responding?
It’s been surreal. Social media can feel noisy, but when people stop scrolling to say, “This helped me today,” it reminds me why I show up. I’ve connected with people from all walks of life who share the same core emotions, grief, hope, fear, resilience. It’s proof that healing is universal and that real stories still matter.
Thanks again for your time, Cousin Colby. How can our readers stay connected with you?
The best way to stay connected is through social media, @CousinColby across all platforms, or by visiting my website. I’m always sharing reflections, resources, and conversations centered on healing, growth, and purpose. This work isn’t just a book for me, it’s a community, and everyone is welcome.

MAN ON A MISSION: Ezzy, DJ/Media Host/Entrepreneur

by Cyrus Webb

Some people just have IT. Ezzy is one of those people.

As an acclaimed DJ, media personality and entrepreneur, he has carved out his own lane and showed by example what you can achieve with hard work and dedication.

It's been great over the years to watch him rise and shine---and create opportunities for others along the way.

Ezzy, you have made a name for yourself in your community through the arts and entertainment. What has it been like to reflect on the impact you’ve been able to make?

Cyrus, it has been 25 years in the entertainment industry and approximately 15 years in the media space. It certainly feels great to be able to make people happy through music and shine the light on our small and local heroes in our communities, while helping others turn their dreams into a reality in media.

Have you always known that entertaining was something you wanted to do or was meant to do?

I did not see any of this happening. I’ve always had a very strong passion for music, but I didn’t think about anything except the love of music.  I thought that I’d be a meteorologist because I love geography. If I wasn't doing this maybe I’d be telling you about the weather on TV or something.

Your talents have taken you literally around the world. Tell us about one of the wow moments you have had so far.

That would have to be the opportunity to DJ in front of over 50,000 people. I saw the crowd, but I did not know the estimated number until after the event.

Outside of entertaining, you have created a platform to showcase the talents and skills of others as well as causes that are important. What sparked what is now Ezzy Spotlight?

Well, I was given the opportunity to become a DJ and radio personality by two people. Being on many different stages and on air in the studio has opened my eyes to the many other talents that are out there, but they may never get those opportunities. Hence the creation of Ezzy Spotlight. Let’s showcase these hidden gems. Also, being raised in a third world country was not easy. But, when a disaster strikes, I use my voice and my platform to help where possible.

We have both benefited from social media. How has it helped you to reach new audiences and amplify your work?

Yes, we have. Social media has given me the ability to show the receipts of my work, the type of events I do and quality of my presentation. As a result, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many different cultures and celebrities, consistently. Some of the celebrities include Brian McKnight, Robin Thicke, Blanco Brown, KC and the Sunshine Band, Leann Rimes, just to name a few.

We are living in interesting times. What keeps you grounded and focused, even when challenges come your way?

Understanding the industry, being dependent on myself only, and sacrificing short-term pleasure for long-term growth were all very helpful. But my resilience to overcome the challenges was a major factor in being humbled and focused. Some people were broken down in the process. I’ve learned to pick myself up each time with a smile.

What is something you’re looking forward to this year we should be on the lookout for?

I’m looking forward to connecting with some gems who continue to positively contribute to the world as often as time allows.  I also hope to be on a stage somewhere with 100,000+ people. I’m ready for it.

Ezzy, what advice do you have for others when it comes to pursuing their goals and dreams?

Be consistent, patient, professional, humble and pray every day. Avoid negative situations and distractions.

Thanks for all you do, man. It’s been great watching you rise. How can our audience stay connected with you?
